This week I am taking a
break from the chronicling of my older ukulele-playing history to
tell you about something that is part of my more recent
ukulele-playing history.
Confused?
Let me put it this way:
I am shamelessly promoting something this week.
How is that different
to any other week?
I'm not entirely sure,
to be honest.
Anyone who knows me in
real life or follows me on social media will be no stranger to my
self-promotion. I've badgered people to listen to terrible cover
versions and terrible self-penned, but humorous (I hope) songs. I've
even tried to get you to buy my t-shirts, but so far I've managed to
sell just one and that was to myself.
The new thing I'm
promoting is yet more music. It's a little different this time.
A friend asked me:
“Will you ever record anything that I can show my mother?” We've
been friends since our schooldays, back when the world looked like a
Harold Lloyd film and understandably he might want to say to his mum:
“Remember my old school friend? Well he's recorded some music;
listen to this.” The rude moniker of my performance persona and the
frequent expletives which litter my songs have made this impossible.
Until now.
Now I have recorded
some instrumental stuff which I claimed to be “Scandinavian
hardcore and metal-influenced ukulele rock” and which might be the
most pretentious genre I've ever invented.
Anyway Makt &
Styrke is the name of this new side project and the EP, Deafening Susurrations, is 7 minutes of instrumental
ukulele shenanigans and is probably the most serious thing I've ever
recorded.
It's streaming on all
the major streaming sites and I believe it's downloadable from iTunes
as well.
Just stream it though.
A lot. I earn something like $0.003 per song stream , so if you play
it several million times I might be able to buy that villa in the
south of France I've always wanted.
